Disturbed Soil
It’s interesting how weeds find their way to your garden. But if you research, you will find that weeds, especially Henbit and dead Neddle love “disturbed areas”. They grow well in places that have been turned over and then left unattended. Although it is beautiful in the moment, it can be very invasive and will return over and over.
Our relationship with God takes time, effort, studying, seeking, prayer, desire, love, fighting… I could add to this list, but I think you get the point. Our gardens don’t manage themselves, and our relationship with God doesn’t either. Our sin is a constant reminder of our need for Jesus, just as Henbit is a reminder to the gardener to take care of the earth. We must recognize that we are disturbed soil before weeds take over. We shouldn’t wait until our sin is in full bloom to decide to take care of it. The Bible reminds us of the following: seek and you will find, pick up your cross daily, manage your spirit and stay on guard of evil that can creep in, study His Word and hide it in your heart… Follow Me! The world is visibly infiltrated with evil, and the Lord has a plan for it… uproot it and get rid of it. This isn’t because He desires destruction, He just isn’t opposed to using it to protect His people. Just as we manage the Earth, the Lord is the only one that can help manage your soul. So when you know your soul is disturbed, spend some extra time preparing it for the new life He is planting in you!
James 4:7-10
“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.”
James 5:13-16
“13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Matthew 12:43-44
43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.
***unoccupied is the kicker!
Deuteronomy 32:46-47
46 he said to them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. 47 They are not just idle words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
