Spill Over
Devotion from the Garden
“Spill over”
The strawberries are so aggressive. They have outgrown their spaces, and they are spilling over to the ground below them. They sprout runners that will continue to grow until they reach the ground, where they will root and grow there if I let them.
This reminds me of our calling. Like the talents that were distributed to the workers, we were not asked to take our faith and stay contained to the faith we were given upon the day we received Christ. We were asked to go, invest, grow, spread, multiply! We should be so filled with the Spirit that we overflow into the lives of others. Our worship should be so great that it reaches out and plants itself in the spirits of others. The Bible talks about this concept: out of the overflow of the heart, speaks the mouth! What we say is truly what our heart is full of. So as anger consumes our spirit, it spills out. As fear bubbles up inside us, it overflows to those around us. But, likewise, as the Gospel floods our Spirit, it will flow from the fountain of our hearts, if we do not close the flood gates (a.k.a. quench the Spirit).
So, today, focus your spirit on the eternal life you were given and shy away from the fear, anger, bitterness, envy, frustration that you might have been feeling! See what God can do with the overflow of your heart today! Watch as the people around you are changed as you are the hands and feet of Christ.
Happy Thursday!
Matthew 25:22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Luke 6:25 “The good person out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil person out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.”
John 7:38 “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
